STAT MEDEVAC UPGRADES ITS OuterLink MOBILE ASSET MANAGEMENT SOLUTION TO INCLUDE VOICE MESSAGING
Tampa, FL, Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) – September 17, 2007

Voice messaging functionality adds level of safety to air medical transport operations
OuterLink Corporation today announced that STAT MedEvac will upgrade its OuterLink CP-2 mobile asset management platform to the OuterLink CP-3i and will add voice messaging functionality. STAT MedEvac purchased 22 OuterLink CP-3i SatCom transceivers and added an upgrade to include voice messaging with OuterLink’s Voice Panel control heads. This allows STAT MedEvac to add voice messaging to the existing text and location tracking capabilities standard on the OuterLink CP-3i. STAT MedEvac operates a fleet of helicopters and airplanes serving the western Pennsylvania region.
The OuterLink Voice Panel (OVP) allows customers to send voice messages over the satellite network to dispatch centers. As the voice messages are stored in the customer’s database, messages can be retrieved and replayed with a simple click of a mouse. Replies from dispatch are delivered instantly and stored in the OuterLink control head until the pilot and/or crew chooses to play them. “The messaging method provided by the OVP adds another measure of safety to our operations, in that the pilot does not get distracted from his flight responsibilities and can retrieve messages when his workload permits. Even if he is interrupted or distracted during message playback, he can replay the message at will,” said Richard Gross, director of operations for STAT MedEvac.
Gross continued, “The OuterLink solution has proven to be a very useful tool in our business and it has provided us with the real-time information needed to operate in the safest possible environment. We have used the standard text messaging capability extensively. With the addition of voice messaging, we will substantially increase the pilot and crews ease of communication with dispatch without interfering with current aircraft operations.”
The OuterLink Voice Panel is one of several enhancements available for the latest version of the OuterLink mobile asset management platform, the OuterLink CP-3i. Also available is the OuterLink Voice and Video Recorder (O.V.V.R.) which was announced today from the Air Medical Transport Conference in Tampa, FL.
“OuterLink solutions continue to be the flight tracking and two-way messaging solution of choice for the air medical transportation industry,” said Andrew Joseph, CEO of OuterLink. “We remain focused on developing and delivering mobile asset management solutions that enhance the safety and efficiency of vehicle operations and anticipates the demands of the aviation industry.”
About STAT MedEvac
STAT MedEvac, a service of the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pa, Inc., and its Direct Air Carriers, provides medical service support for air medical transport to patients with critical illness and/or injuries. The organization is directed by a consortium of hospitals, and completed its first patient transport in February 1984. Today, our program consists of sixteen rotor-wing base sites, each consisting of an EMS Pilot, a Flight Nurse, and a Flight Paramedic.
STAT MedEvac is proud to be recognized, as the only air medical program in western Pennsylvania that has developed established Instrument Approaches to various hospitals. In addition, STAT MedEvac has become the first Helicopter EMS operator to participate in conjunction with the FAA in the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP). This most important program allows us to cooperate with the FAA in identifying safety events, and implementing corrective measures that reduce the opportunity for safety to be compromised. This is done through a self reporting system, cooperative follow up, and appropriate corrective action.
